Background information: the word SPA derives from the Belgium bath resort Spa. Since the 17th century, the name of this therapeutic bath was used for all kind of mineral springs on the Britain islands. However, in American English with the second half of the 20th century the denotation of the word spa was used for wellness-oases, above all for wellness areas in hotels.
Additionally, the word SPA has a second origin – deriving from the Latin language “sanus per aquam” – meaning “cure by water”.
